This 5-day intermediate course provides a comprehensive exploration of the Safety Management System (SMS) framework as defined by ICAO Annex 19 and Doc 9859. Designed for airport safety officers, operations managers, and regulatory inspectors, the program focuses on the practical implementation and maintenance of a robust SMS within the aerodrome environment. Participants will examine the four core components of an SMS: Safety Policy and Objectives, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion. The curriculum addresses the transition from traditional reactive safety methods to a proactive, data-driven approach, emphasizing the importance of a positive safety culture. Through interactive workshops, hazard identification exercises, and safety auditing simulations, attendees will learn to develop safety performance indicators (SPIs), conduct thorough risk assessments, and manage safety documentation. By the end of the training, participants will be equipped with the necessary competencies to support their organization's safety goals and ensure continuous improvement in aerodrome operational safety
